Job Summary:
CultureLink’s bicycle programming provides free access to bicycle parts and tools for low-income residents along with support from experienced bike mechanics, and workshops and training on bike repair. Our activities foster a culture of repair and reuse. The bicycle mechanic will be trained to support this programming, enabling them to secure employment in the bicycle industry in the future. Regular on-site shifts are Tuesday through Saturday.
This opportunity is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs Program.
Duties
- Helping to organize registration of participants and publicize events.
- Attending bike repair clinics in the neighbourhood and different locations
- Demonstrating and instructing basic bike maintenance techniques
- Inspecting bicycles to determine the requirement for repair
- Performing routine maintenance
- Enforcing safety rules and regulations
- Other duties as assigned
Required Work Capacities:
- Physical demands: Standing (50% of the workday); lifting from floor (20 lbs); handling tools/objects requiring strong arm grip; use of gloves and eye protection is required in some cases
- Non-physical demands: Following a schedule, maintaining attendance/punctuality; variety of tasks
- Social/emotional demands: Teamwork; working closely with participants and co-workers
- Cognitive/mental demands: Initiative; adaptability
Qualifications:
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening with the past six months (or ability to secure this)
- A Canadian citizen, or permanent resident or a protected person as defined by the immigration and Refugee Protection Act and legally entitled to work in Canada
- Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
